Tourism Assessment

The tourism assessment has been completed and a report compiled.  Ryan Pesch, U of MN Community Economics Extension Educator, and I had a great time working with you to make this happen.  I hope it is useful to you and sparks new ideas.  Looking back over the past 18-months, it has been great to see ideas around tourism already come into fruition.  From a new Bed and Breakfast and a remodeled motel, to great flower planters and wifi at LaLa’s, Fertile really does have a lot of offer.  I hear Summer Fest at AELC and the short trainings out there were a success.  Keep up the fabulous work.

Take a look at the report by clicking on the link below.  Maybe you too will find something fun to do around Fertile!

And, Jennifer, thank you to LaLa’s for hosting us, letting us enjoy your venue for the day and for the FABULOUS homemade icecream!

Youth Council Video

May 16th, 2008 by llindberg

This week we showed the Youth Council video to all 8th & 9th grade students in Mr. Solie’s class, 7th graders in Mrs. Burke’s class, and 10 & 11th graders in Mr. Steffes’ class.  Stacey Morvig, along with Tyler Rice & Kassidy Lehman, created the video in Mrs. Halvorson’s Advance Comm class. We showed the video and asked the students to take a survey to let us know if they think we should start a Fertile Youth Council and what types of changes they’d like to see here.  We got a lot of really awesome surveys from those classes and great ideas to move forward with.  A Youth Council would be a great way for the youth of Fertile to get involved with their community and create more opportunity for Youth here!

City Website

March 31st, 2008 by jsobin

The city website is being revamped. The goal is to include every business, resource, and activity connected with the city of Fertile. A list is slowly being compiled. The school business webmasters (seniors) will be assisting this project. Any and all businesses that would like to have more than just contact information listed should contact Yvonne Halvorson at the school. A website can be made for your business for just $50.00. This is a bargain. You will have your own website and there will be a link to your site on the city site. Any questions or comments about the site contact Jennifer Sobin at 945-3543.
Hope to see you at the Tourism meeting tomorrow night!

Hand to Hand

March 31st, 2008 by jsobin

To reiterate the previous blog by Kathy, the Hand to Hand portion of our local Horizons group is in need of item contributions. Spring is here and attics and basements might just hold a treasure for someone else and be a relief for the present owner to be rid of! Contact Senora, Jeannie or Jennifer. Contact info on the Hand to Hand page.

Counter

As soon as possible a counter will be added to the Fertile Community Blog site. This will help the Fertile Horizons group gauge how the site functions within the community.

February 19

February 26th, 2008 by jsobin

A Horizon’s monthly team meeting was held on Tuesday,February 19th at Deevine Dining in Fertile. Those present discussed future squad updates; progress being made in the different area of focus as have been previously mentioned. The overall feeling is progress is being made, communication is working and as much time as possible is being made for these volunteer hours being put in by the various people involved. With basketball season coming to an end, there will be more time for many of us to focus on the different future squad areas we are working in and by the March meeting there will more to report.
Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 6PM Deevine Dining.
Please note: There will be an event planning meeting at 5:30Pm at Deevine Dining on Tuesday April 1. Any interested community members are welcome to listen, learn, and share ideas.
