Monthly Team meeting

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Happy New Year! A new year, new ideas, and a new regular meeting schedule.
The Horizons Team met at Deevine Dining on Wednesday, January 23. The goal of this meeting was to connect with eachother and connect ideas for the seperate future squads, as well as setting regular meeting times. Squads had outlined objectives previous to this meeting at individual meetings. Each group reported on squad goals and progress of current projects.
The three “Future Squads” are: 1. Vibrant Downtown, 2. Welcoming/Hospitality, 3. Events, Recreation and Youth. The vibrant downtown squad is working on planning for a city wide art festival inclusive of all ages, types of work and with all businesses involved. The welcoming squad is finishing up plans for welcome baskets to be in place when anyone new arrives.(If anyone would like to contribute any goods or services please post a comment and we will contact you) The event, recreation, and youth squad is working with the city on making the city website all inclusive of all aspects of Fertile (businesses, things to do, places to stay and eat, churches, education, etc.). Squads discussed timelines if any and mentioned if they would be needing funds for any of their plans.
There was a unanimous sense of progress, good use of time and support for the various work being accomplished.
The next meeting will be at Deevine dining in Fertile @ 6 PM, Tuesday February 19.

Hand-to-Hand

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Hand-to-Hand is a Horizons community project that connects household items to people who need them, for FREE! If you have something to give away or if you are looking for an item, check out the page “Hand-to-Hand” in the right column of this blog site. You can also go directly there: fertile.communityblogs.us/hand-to-hand. Together we can meet our meet our neighbors’ needs, turn our trash into treasures and decrease our carbon footprint.

Hand-to-Hand is also an excellant opportunity to post a particular need for yourself or someone you know. Transportation, home repairs, help with children, or help meeting you or your family’s basic needs are some of the things that can be requested. All requests are posted anonymously.

So, something you need or something you have to give are both things to post on Hand-to-Hand.

How does this work? Call 945-6692 or email Jennifer Sobin at sobin@gvtel.com if you have something to give or if you could use something on the list.  We will have the items we have to give away posted here. If you have a piece you would like to give away, we would prefer to post a digital picture along with a description, if possible.

Look at the Hand to Hand page for an updated list.
